cosmo kitty

Here are a few illustrations I made for my digital media class. We were told to design a collectible artist toy and I decided to make this little guy. Hes a mystical space kitty with knack for fortune telling. Despite having what many may describe as a burning hatred for digital illustration, I am quite content with how these turned out. I had a lot of fun playing around with different pattern overlays and colour palette but don't worry, this gal has no intention on giving up the hand any time soon!

Thoughts of the wild

This is a short story based on the word infatuation. While on the topic of infatuation, I should let you know that the little deer creature is based on my new obsession, the Pudu. Look him up... you'll probably die.

Home sweet home

This is a piece I did for an assignment on "Guilty Pleasures". We were directed to choose one guilty pleasure and illustrate it. I naturally chose grandma crafts due to my unhealthy fixation on anything knit, stitched or sewn. This little guy is the product of no sleep and chugging lots of tea. After my first legitimate all nighter of the semester, I'm quite content with how everything turned out. I'm especially proud of my little diy rosette studs! Anddd HONESTLY What would a kitschy embroidery be without the wonderful "home sweet home" tag line.

Neato!

It recently came to my attention that I was featured on a few blogs during the summer! I was quite excited to discover this news and wanted to quickly thank Eat Drink Chic, as well as Wooden Toy for their darling posts! Both sites have plenty of pretty things to look at so definitely stop by and check out the goodies!

I Thought I'd give you a little taste of the spectacular images that have been "cranking my changes" lately! There are few things better then a girl and her pet skunk.... and i think the rest speak for themselves.

long time, no see

Here are a few images I've been meaning to post for weeks now! The top two are some images from a zine I made towards the end of summer. The last image is a little doodle I did for a friends clothing line for children called Frou Frou Cowboy. Her and nearly 500 other artist will be showcasing their goodies at the Queen West Art Crawl this weekend. Be sure to check it out if you get a chance!

pretty little things

Here are a few shots of my new totes and t-shirts! I'm surprisingly happy with how they turned out, but it's kind of surreal to see my images on them. I'll be selling them, as well as my original pieces and a few other little things I've thrown together at next Saturdays Crafternoon and Tea. Crafternoon and Tea is a craft sale which is hosted by the lovely Nathalie-Roze at her Leslieville shop located at 1015 Queen E . I encourage anyone who has a soft spot for homemade treasures to stop by and check out the array of goodies. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Crying skys and hypnotic suns

I was recently approached by a hair stylist from Vidal Sassoon who was in search of a model for an upcoming hair shoot. I jumped at the idea of a free cut and colour and was quite excited about getting a few nice photos out of the deal. I'm still waiting for the shots but here are a few photos I took afterwards. I adore my new do and look forward to lots of free haircuts to come!

Sweet nothings

Here are a few shots from my show. Sean and I set set everything up tonight and it went surprisingly well. I'm quite relieved to see everything come together and I'm really happy with how everything turned out. I'm especially proud of the "sweet nothings" sign I made with my own 2 hands. For an extra little touch I added little hooks to the bottom of the sign to hang my business cards from.

pieces of me

Here are my new cards I made for my upcoming show. After hours spent at kinko's last night and with the help of my patient boyfriend I'm finally content with them. I think the top set would be neat for a mailer or a postcard possibly. I'll be setting up my show tomorrow evening, so keep your eye open for pictures of my little babies in the quaint and cozy moonbean cafe.

Thin skin, soft bones

This is the piece I'm currently working on for the show. It's taking forever because of all the textures, but I'm quite content with the results so I suppose the endless hours of pricking my fingers have been worth it.

The gradient of a dawn’s entrance

I am constantly saving pretty pictures from my travels throughout the glorious world of cyberspace and decide I should share some of my current favourites. Above are an array of images that have been a source of inspiration in some way or another. I seem to find inspiration within almost anything, however currently I am quite fixated with Victorian children and summer motifs. Mother nature has always been an endless source of creative goodness for me and I am beginning to believe I am destined to migrate to a much warmer climate (who can resist drawing on a sweet summer day?). As you can see, I'm a sucker for pretty girls who frolic outdoors so theres nothing like a topless beauty lounging in a bed of cat tails to get me jonesing for a pencil. Lately, I have also been quite attracted to traditional art from a variety of culture, specifically dutch and native Americans. I find the kitsch quality in a lot of traditional art to be very compelling. Finally, "turn of the century" children's books such as "Sunny rhymes for happy children" by Olive Beaupré Miller are so unbelievably beautiful that who wouldn't burst with creativity when browsing through the antiqued pages. Lately I've been working on channeling all this juicy inspiration into some good old wholesome eye candy, so be sure to keep an eye because new work is on its way!

a breathless breeze

These are a few pieces I've been working on for my upcoming show which will be held at the Moonbean cafe on St. Andrew st between July 12- Aug 10. I've continued to explore embroidery and have also begun to play with sculpey which has been tons of fun! It's quite exciting to see your character come to life in 3d form!

A line drawing of Sean.

the odd truth behind fairy tales...

A charcoal piece based on the original tale of sleeping beauty. In the original, sleeping beauty is impregenated by the prince while she is unconcious. She ends up giving birth to a set of twins as she lays there in a coma. The old tale was raw and a tad gruesome. Its safe to say she woke up pretty confused.

third eye secrets

Within the past couple of weeks I've stumbled upon two unusual messages. The first images show a twenty dollar bill that I received from a customer at work which had been stamped with some sort of logo. I haven't been able to find any information on the Black Diamond Riders, however discovering the bill definitely made me contemplate the idea of sending messages through such a tangible medium as currency.
The third image shows a letter I found in a book while at the library. I found the small note on page 145 of Factory Made, a book about Warhol and friends during the 60's. It took me awhile to interpret the hand writing but I was instantaneously moved by the message. Though the letter was not specifically directed toward me, I felt an undeniable connection to it. It evoke some interesting concepts about my relationship with my surroundings as well as strangers.

My room is filled with books, photos and scraps of paper that serve to grease my gears. The photos above are a few examples of imagery that inspire me and motivate creative stimulation. They range from early 20th century book illustrations, old hollywood starlets, japanese street style clippings, 1920s fashion illustrations and tacky 60s ads.
